Darkspeed gloves are tough where you need them to be, and comfy where you want it. They feature:
- Double the leather on fingertips and thumbs
- Double Kevlar stitching throughout
- Breathable and stretchable spandex backing
- Thick UHMW pucks
Darkspeed has created a glove that walks the fine line between comfortable and ultra-durable skate protection. Rather than using a common full-leather design that often fits weirdly, becomes stiff with time and sweat, and can stain your hands, Darkspeed has engineered a complex solution specifically for the Downhill life.
The leather itself is good quality, soft cowhide that doesn't stiffen up or bleed. The fingers are all double wrapped, because sometimes fingers touch pavement. This double wrapping is stitched on the inside of the glove so the seams don't blow out, and all outer seams are double Kevlar stitching so your glove will stay together through seasons of abuse. Everywhere on the glove that might touch the ground, including the perimeter of the top of the glove and the knuckles, is leathered up. The knuckles are even padded for impact protection. The rest is a breathable, spandex-based fabric that stretches for a tight fit on any hand (refer to size chart). You can wear these gloves for the entire session without feeling the need to pull them off on the way up to let your hand get some air.
The elastic wristband is wide and soft for a secure fit. It's resistant to pilling and tearing, because it's one of the most essential components. The leather strap, which is embossed with a rad darkspeed logo, is low-profile to fit nicely under sleeves.
The velcro patch is elongated down to the strap so that a rider has options for puck placement. The pucks themselves are extremely long lasting, made from an Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene. UHMW has extremely long chains, with a molecular mass usually between 2 and 6 million u. These long chains serves to transfer load more effectively, resulting in a very tough material, with the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic presently made. It also has a very low coefficient of friction, meaning they slide fast and don't wear much at all.
The combination of a well-desgined glove and highly effecient puck make for a glove that will outlast just about every other on the market, for a price less than the average leather glove.
They also look super sick.
