Don't swap your bushings, just get KranK!
Riptide's known for having the smoothest-turning bushings; they flow from turn to turn like liquid. Brad T. Miller is a straight-up scientist and he applies his deep understanding of urethane dynamics into every batch of bushings and cups.
What we have here is a change from what the usual riptide formulas do. WFB (World's Fastest Bushings) and APS (Animated Polymer Systems) are both amazing urethane formulas, but they turn 15% - 20% more in a turn than the same durometer from another brand.
KranK reacts the same or less than the other brands' formulas- but it still has that flowy, gooey Riptide feel. It's amazing.
But that's not even the best part- you can krank these bushings down and they'll actually "harden" accordingly, rather than just compressing and bulging out. We've all seen that kid on stock bushings with half his kingpin sticking out... If you ever tried his setup you know how scary it is. You can't really be sure how much they're going to turn (if at all) for any amount of lean. If you don't have KranK, this is generally a really bad idea.
But with Krank you have a ton of versatility- You can take your freeride setup to the downhill spot and with a few turns of the kingpin nut you have a race-ready, stabilized setup. This is especially useful with splits- usually you want a harder bushing on the lower truck in back. Krank 'em down and you're gucci.
This is especially true with Talls. More urethane means more lean and more ability to be krank'd down. Riding talls is where it's at lately, they give you the turn-ability to hit apex every time.
My experience riding downhill with them was extremely positive and I can't wait to fully make the switch. Not just because of the adjustability, but because even because set up flush like normal, they ride really nice.
Our highest rebound formula to date, KranK is designed specifically to change under pressure and is controlled by the amount of clamp pressure you subject it to when tightening the King Pin nut! The effective range of control is from barely snug for the loosest feel to 2 full turns for the tightest feel. KranK will turn the same or less than the same durometer of other brands which is also a departure from APS and WFB. As for washers, flat washers work great with this compound, but for the greatest control and range of this performance feature, use cupped, precision flat or precision cupped washers.
